March 7, 2025 – Visit from Nagaoka City & Nagaoka Fireworks Foundation

Nagaoka City and Nagaoka Fireworks Foundation officials visited Honolulu Hale to meet with Deputy Managing Director Krishna Jayaram and Executive Director of MOCA, Kaʻili Trask O’Connell to express their appreciation for the City & County of Honolulu’s cooperation during Honolulu Festival.

In 2012, Honolulu and Nagaoka established their sister city relationship. That same year, Nagaoka Fireworks were launched during the final day of the Honolulu Festival for the first time. In 2015, a memorial ceremony took place at Pearl Harbor to honor the 70th anniversary of World War II’s conclusion. Three white Nagaoka Fireworks ascended into the sky symbolizing hopes for peace, followed by a total of 2,000 fireworks illuminating the night above Pearl Harbor.

Since 2012, Nagaoka Fireworks have signified the grand finale of the Honolulu Festival, made possible by the generous support from the city of Nagaoka. While fireworks in the US are often viewed as purely celebratory, those from Nagaoka in the Honolulu Festival carry a significant message of peace.
