December 15, 2025 – Mayor Blangiardi meets with new Consul General of Japan

Mayor Rick Blangiardi met with Hideaki Chotoku, the newly appointed Consul General of Japan in Honolulu, continuing the strong diplomatic relationship between Hawaii and Japan.

Consul General Chotoku has been actively engaged in Hawaii’s community since his arrival, participating in significant commemorative events and strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Japan. His role comes at a meaningful time, as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The meeting between Mayor Blangiardi and Consul General Chotoku reflects the ongoing commitment of both leaders to fostering cultural exchange, international friendship, and mutual prosperity between Honolulu and Japan. The Japan-U.S. alliance continues to play a pivotal role in maintaining peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

This diplomatic engagement builds upon Honolulu’s longstanding sister city relationships with multiple Japanese cities, including Hiroshima, Honolulu’s oldest sister city, and Shibuya, its newest. These connections continue to facilitate educational exchanges, tourism partnerships, and cultural collaboration between the two nations.
